Here are the lastest injury and notable roster moves by the New York Mets, as of March 7th, 2025. Here’s an overview of the injuries and roster moves.

Injuries:

  • Frankie Montas (RHP): Montas suffered a high-grade lat strain and was shut down for 6–8 weeks starting February 17. His return is anticipated around mid-May.
  • Sean Manaea (LHP): Manaea is sidelined with a right oblique strain and is expected to miss the start of the season.
  • Starling Marte (OF): Marte is dealing with a knee bone bruise and is a few days away from returning to game action.
  • Brandon Nimmo (OF): Nimmo underwent an MRI on his sore right knee, which revealed no significant issues. He may return to the lineup soon.
  • Drew Smith (RHP): Smith is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in July 2024. He was placed on the 60-day injured list on February 13 and is expected to return in 2026.
  • Ronny Mauricio (INF): Mauricio, a promising 23-year-old infielder, missed the entire 2024 season after tearing his ACL during the Dominican Winter League in January 2024. He underwent a subsequent procedure in August to remove scar tissue, which delayed his rehabilitation. As of late February 2025, Mauricio is participating in baseball activities, including hitting and fielding drills, but is not yet sprinting. The Mets are taking a cautious approach, aiming for him to appear in Grapefruit League games by mid-March.
  • A.J. Minter (LHP): Minter, a recent acquisition, underwent surgery in August 2024 to repair a labrum tear in his left hip. He began throwing bullpen sessions in late February 2025 and remains optimistic about being ready for Opening Day.
  • Christian Scott (RHP): Scott underwent a hybrid Tommy John surgery in September 2024 to address a sprained UCL in his right elbow. He is expected to miss the entire 2025 season as he continues his rehabilitation.
  • Dedniel Núñez (RHP): Núñez suffered a right forearm strain in September 2024. As of late February 2025, he has been progressing through a throwing program, including bullpen sessions and live batting practice. The Mets are hopeful he will be ready for Opening Day, though his status remains uncertain.

Roster Moves:

  • José Ureña (RHP): To bolster their rotation amidst injuries, the Mets signed Ureña to a minor league deal, with the potential to earn $2 million if he joins the major league roster.
  • Nick Madrigal (INF): Madrigal is expected to miss the entire 2025 season due to surgery for a fractured left shoulder. To address the infield gap, the Mets acquired infielder Alexander Canario from the Chicago Cubs.
  • Sean Reid-Foley (RHP): Reid-Foley cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. He has the option to reject the assignment and become a free agent due to having over three years of service time.
  • Dom Hamel (RHP): Prospect Dom Hamel was included in the first round of cuts during Mets camp and will return to Triple-A Syracuse. He has reworked his pitching delivery, showing promise in the Grapefruit League with three scoreless innings so far.
