Ronny Mauricio, one of the New York Mets’ promising young infielders, continues to recover from a torn ACL in his right knee, an injury he suffered during the Dominican Winter League in December 2023. Following surgery in January 2024 and a subsequent procedure in August to remove scar tissue, Mauricio has been progressing in his rehabilitation but has yet to return to game action. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza recently provided an update, stating that while Mauricio hasn’t faced any setbacks, he is still not ready to participate in spring training games.

As a result, Mauricio is expected to miss the start of the 2025 regular season, with no definitive timeline set for his return. However, the Mets remain optimistic about his recovery, hoping he can rejoin the team early in the season. The 23-year-old had shown flashes of his potential in 2023, making his MLB debut and hitting .248 with two home runs and seven stolen bases in 26 games. His absence leaves a gap in the Mets’ infield depth, but the team is focused on ensuring he returns at full strength rather than rushing his comeback.

Despite the setback, Mauricio’s long-term future with the Mets remains bright. With his combination of power, speed, and defensive versatility, he could play a significant role once he’s fully healthy. In the meantime, the Mets will rely on other infield options, such as Jeff McNeil and Brett Baty, to fill the void.
