The 2025 Mets are off to a hot start this spring with respect to their list of injuries.
Here is the most recent list as of 2/24/2025:
Nick Madrigal – InfielderNick Madrigal dislocated his left shoulder during a spring training game against the Washington Nationals on February 23. An MRI revealed a fracture, and manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Madrigal will be “out for [a] long time.” Madrigal, who signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract this offseason, was competing for a backup infielder position.
Sean Manaea – Starting PitcherSean Manaea is expected to miss the start of the season due to a right oblique strain. He will be shut down for at least a couple of weeks before beginning a throwing program, aiming for a mid-to-late April return. Manaea re-signed with the Mets on a three-year, $75 million contract after leading the team with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts last season.
Frankie Montas – Starting PitcherFrankie Montas is sidelined with a high-grade right lat strain. He is undergoing a 6-8 week period without throwing and will require a full buildup once recovered, projecting his return for late May or June.
Drew Smith – Relief Pitcher
Drew Smith was placed on the 60-day injured list on February 13 as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery performed in July 2024. He is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.
By my count that is 3 pitchers coming from an already small, suspect pitching staff.
