Mets vs Red Sox (3/1/2025) – Mets lose 6-4, Blackburn’s rough start

In today’s Spring Training matchup, the Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Mets with a final score of 6-4.

Boston Red Sox Highlights:

  • Masataka Yoshida’s Offensive Performance: Yoshida was instrumental in the Red Sox’s offense, delivering a ground-rule double in the first inning that brought in two runs. He later added an RBI single, showcasing his ability to drive in runs and maintain pressure on the opposing pitchers.
  • Alex Bregman’s RBI Single: In the fourth inning, Bregman extended Boston’s lead to 6-3 with a sharp line-drive RBI single to left field, demonstrating his consistent hitting prowess.
  • Walker Buehler’s Pitching Debut: Making his first appearance of the Spring, Buehler pitched two scoreless innings, effectively containing the Mets’ offense and setting a positive tone for the Red Sox’s pitching staff.
  • Trayce Thompson’s Plate Discipline: Thompson showcased his patience at the plate by drawing a walk in the first inning, contributing to the Red Sox’s early offensive surge.

New York Mets Highlights:

  • José Siri’s Three-Run Homer: Siri provided a significant boost for the Mets with a three-run home run in the third inning, his second in as many days. Siri is known for his defense but if can cut down on his chase rate and is patient at the plate he’ll be a valuable bat at the bottom of the order.
  • Brett Baty’s Defensive Excellence: Baty cooled off at the plate but made a remarkable diving play at third base to secure the final out of the first inning, preventing further damage.
  • Jeff McNeil’s Consistent Hitting: McNeil continued his strong performance at the plate, contributing two hits in three at-bats. Those two hits helped up his Spring Training batting average and he’s starting to get into mid season form.
  • Paul Blackburn’s rough day: Blackburn was slated to pitch 2 innings today. He was only able to pitch 1 and 1/3 inning, giving up 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 B. This rough outing follows his previous start on February 26, where he delivered a strong performance in his return from injury.
