Sean Manaea shut down due to injury

The New York Mets’ starting pitching depth is already being tested early in the 2025 season, with two starters landing on the injured list. After losing Frankie Montas, the team will also be without Sean Manaea, who suffered an oblique strain.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza stated Manaea will be shut down for a few weeks and will resume throwing once symptom-free. The team expects him back in April and does not anticipate changes to their pitching plans.

Manaea revealed he felt the injury upon arriving at camp and struggled with recovery, noting his condition never improved despite continuing to pitch.

“Nothing really got any better, it didn’t really get worse, it just kind of plateaued. The worst part is it just never got any better over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been throwing, been pitching, and recovery hasn’t been the greatest in between.”
